So, unfortunately in the last couple of weeks, the world has changed quite a bit. The novel COVID-19 virus has spread all around the world and confined us in our homes. On the other side, fortunately for us developers, our work can be done from anywhere including in the comfort of our homes. Today I want to share with you a couple of suggestions on how to spend your time and improve yourself and your skills as a PHP developer during the quarantine.
Laracasts
I hope everyone has heard about Laracasts. It is essential to every PHP/Laravel developer. It provides so much knowledge which is indispensable. Jeffrey Way the creator of the site has transferred his knowledge to his viewers in a masterful way. You can learn everything from back-end to front-end technologies. The lessons help in your everyday work and the discussions have so many good developers contributing and helping you with your problem. All you have to do is ask.
Jeffrey is doing a new series at the moment on what is new in Laravel 7.0. I recommend you to check it out and await a new episode every day. Vue
Even though every back-end developer loves to do his work in the respected language sometimes we are called upon to write some Javascript. My favorite framework for that kind of work is Vue.js. I have dedicated my 20% time to learning Vue.js and again Laracasts is your friend here. It has an awesome video series on the basics of Vue but also some advanced techniques. Additionally, the documentation of Vue is vast and one of the best in the business. Hats off to the team at Vue and Evan You the creator of Vue.
What goes well with Laravel and Vue.js you ask?
Well Tailwind CSS of course. As the description says Tailwind CSS is a highly customizable, low-level CSS framework that gives you all of the building blocks you need to build bespoke designs without any annoying opinionated styles you have to fight to override. The documentation is top notch and for learning, I recommend the Youtube channel of the creator of the framework Adam Wathan. He regularly uploads new videos and occasionally live streams his work on different features that are part of Tailwind CSS.
And last but not least I want to share a site I recently found which is called Scrimba. It provides video tutorials for all kinds of technologies from Bootstrap to Python. The videos are short, concise, cheat sheet type that introduce you to the technologies and you can get a grasp of the basics in just a couple of hours.
