Challenge
A global food supply chain compliance provider had no structured way to extract usable data from the high volumes of PDFs its clients submitted – text-based and scanned, each in different formats and layouts.
The company needed proof that AI-driven processing could handle this variability with high accuracy, but the solution had to operate within their existing Microsoft Power Platform, support batch email submissions, normalize data to a standard JSON schema, and retain zero original PDFs per security policy.
Solution
Drawing on its AI Center of Excellence, ⋮IWConnect deployed a two-person team to deliver a focused proof of concept in four weeks. We built an email-driven automation pipeline using Power Automate, AI Builder, and Power BI – entirely within the client’s existing stack. Clients email PDFs to a shared mailbox, triggering automated extraction, JSON normalization, secure storage, and response delivery.
AI Builder processes both text-based and scanned documents at 99% accuracy. A Power BI layer gives stakeholders self-serve reporting over previously inaccessible data.
Business Value
The PoC created a net-new capability: documents that previously sat unprocessed now clear the pipeline in under five seconds. The system handles approximately 1,000 documents monthly at 99% extraction accuracy, with three stakeholders actively using Power BI dashboards for decision-making.
Zero PDF storage satisfies security policy, and the email-based model eliminated client onboarding friction entirely – delivered in four weeks by a two-person team.
